The Cleaning Technician will work to exceed expectations providing professional Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning and Furnace Duct Cleaning services for commercial and residential clients. Technicians must establish client’s faith and trust in their professionalism, expertise and knowlege in their field. Excellent communication and customer service skills are a must. Technicians will be responsible for working efficiently to meet schedule requirements, preparing invoices, collecting payment and remitting to the office, maintenance of company vehicles, tools, equipment and the shop area. Periodic after-hours and weekend work will be required to serve commercial clients.

The Restoration Technician will work in the “Disaster Clean-up” field and will display courtesy, compassion and professionalism with those clients who have experienced property loss through flood or fire damage. Technicians must establish client’s faith and trust in their expertise and knowledge in their field. Excellent communication and customer service skills are a must. Technicians will be highly organized, documenting site conditions and working with clients, insurance professionals and their team to establish a course of action to meet each job’s unique requirements. Emergency response to flood and fire damage will require Technicians to be available for rotating On-Call schedules. Call-out bonuses are provided. Travel and out-of-town stays may be periodically required. Technicians will be responsible for working efficiently to meet schedule requirements, maintenance of company vehicles, tools, equipment and the shop area.

On-site work will include:

• evaluating and documenting damage and communicating findings to clients and insurance professionals
• removal of damaged flooring, structural material (wallboard, drywall etc.), counters, cabinets, or fixtures
• packing, careful handling, moving of customer’s contents
• using professional expertise, tools and solutions for cleaning, deodorizing and/or restoring contents and structure
• using professional expertise, tools, equipment and procedures to ensure the health and safety of building occupants and co-workers and to keep further damage from occurring

• …that major carpet manufactures list hot water extraction (also known as steam cleaning) as the preferred method for the cleaning and maintenance of carpets.
• …that Shaw Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer of tufted broadloom carpet, has revised its Residential Carpet Warranty. New requirements under “Homeowner Obligations”, state periodic cleaning by hot water extraction must be performed at least once every two years.
• In addition, effective January 01, 2008, if the consumer elects to have cleaning performed by a professional service, it must be an IICRC Certified Firm.

Myth #1: Wait as long as you can to have your carpet cleaned the first time, because once you have it cleaned it never looks the same again.

If you wait too long to have your carpet cleaned, there has already been permanent damage done to the fibers by abrasion from soil build up. The main reason for this belief can be attributed to carpet cleaners who leave the carpet either too wet, full of residue, or both. Over-wet carpet leaves suspended soils in the excessive moisture. As the carpet dries, this soil will wick to the top surface of the carpet fiber. Remaining residues leave a film that attracts and hold new soils.

Cleaning may also remove any protector that was applied at the factory. Protector coats carpet fibers and helps keep soils from becoming trapped deep inside twisted fibers where abrasion and damage to the carpet can occur. Re-applying protector is an important step in the cleaning process.

In addition, many new carpet warranties specify that carpets must be cleaned by Hot Water Extraction (a.k.a. “steam” cleaning) at least once every 12-18 months. If the cleaning is performed by a professional service, it must be an IICRC Certified Firm, such as Action Services Cleaning and Restoration Specialists Ltd.

Myth #2: The only reason to clean carpets is to remove the dirt.

No. As you probably know, outdoor air contains pollens, fungi, bacteria, air pollution, and car exhaust and hundreds of other chemicals. When you come into your home, you carry those pollens, bacteria and chemicals on your skin, clothes and shoes. Not surprisingly, all those chemicals and toxins wind up in your carpet. If you have allergies, asthma, emphysema or other breathing problems, one major source of your problem could be the contaminants in your carpet.
